CAPABILITY ENGINE
Wherever the map leads, Jeep Grand Cherokee will
tackle the terrain with confidence and strength. Choose from a lineup of
engines to power you into the world's most adventurous places.
A 4.0-litre I-6 engine (standard on the Laredo) producing 140 kW at 5,000 rpm
and 295 Nm at 3,050 rpm. It features 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
A 4.7-litre Power Tech V8 SOHC engine (available on Laredo and standard on Limited).
This engine produces an exhilarating 167 kW at 4,350 rpm and 390 Nm at 3,750
rpm. It features 5-speed multi-range automatic transmission with overdrive.
High-output 4.7L Power Tech V8 SOHC (standard on Overland). This engine produces
190 kW of power at 5,200 rpm and 419 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It features 5-speed
multi-range automatic transmission with overdrive.
Introducing the new 2.7L CRD I-5 diesel engine. Jeep has overcome many traditional
diesel issues. These engines combine Common-Rail Direct (CRD) injection with
the latest intercooled turbo technology.
Jeep CRD engines is a high pressure pump to deliver fuel to electronically controlled
injectors via a single fuel rail for more precise fuel delivery. The advantage
is increased performance, efficiency and comfort. The pump used in the new CRD
system is capable of delivering fuel at almost twice the pressure as previous
designs.
In addition to an intercooled turbo, engine performance is also improved by controlling
the speed with which the turbocharger's turbine wheel spins. This can be accomplished
through the use of a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT). This technology virtually
illiminates 'turbo lag' by changing the angle of the vanes feeding exhaust gases
to the turbine blades when the accelerator is depressed.
As the engine speed increases and the boost pressure builds, the vanes are progressively
opened to allow excess pressure to simply bypass the blades of the turbine eliminating
the need for a waste gate.
An additional advantage of VGT is that by adjusting the pitch of the guide vanes
relative to engine speed, the effective development of power can be spread across
a wider band of the rev range.
The 2.7L CRD Intercooled Turbo I-5 diesel engine produces 120 kW at 4,000 rpm
and 400 Nm at 1,800-2,600 rpm. It features 5-speed multi-range automatic transmission
with overdrive. |
