ENGINE
The first new Jeep of the 21st century
features a choice of new engines that produce the power to make Cherokee
as capable off-road as it is competent on any highway.
The standard 3.7L V-6 PowerTech engine delivers
150 kW of power at 5,200rpm and 312 Nm of torque at 3,800 rpm.
This power plant is coupled with the Jeep 45RFE multi-speed electronic
automatic transmission and the full time NV242 Selec-Trac transfer
case.
The new 2.4L, 4-cyl petrol engine with manual
transmission has been added to the Cherokee Sport line up for 2004.
Providing access to the legendary Jeep 4WD capability at a lower,
more affordable price. The 2.4L I-4 engine produces 108 kW @ 5,200
rpm and 215 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm.
With the recent introduction of the 2.8L diesel
engine, Jeep has overcome many traditional diesel issues. This
engine combines Common-Rail Direct (CRD) injection with the latest
intercooled turbo technology.
The Jeep CRD engine has a high pressure pump
to deliver fuel to electronically controlled injectors via a single
fuel rail for more precise fuel delivery. The advantage is increased
performance, efficiency and comfort. The pump used in the new CRD
system is capable of delivering fuel at almost twice the pressure
as previous designs.
A diesel engine's performance is governed
by the ability to compress large volumes of air into the cylinders
for combusting. Cooler air is denser than warmer air and contains
more oxygen helping engine function with more power and efficiency.
An intercooler is used to cool the compressed air before it enters
the combustion chambers.
Our new generation diesel engine's provide
best-in-class power and torque with increased fuel efficiency and
greatly reduced noise levels.
The 2.8L DOHC direct injection, common rail
turbo diesel produces 110 kW at 3,800 rpm and 360 Nm of torque
at 1,800 rpm. The diesel engine is mated with a five speed automatic
transmission and the Jeep Selec-Trac four wheel drive system. |
